The French impressionist painter Claud Monet, his subject matter and the execution of his paintings attract me to his work. His use of colour is no less than fantastic. In the above painting of the houses of parliament, London, we see a rendering in blue/greys and fiery oranges. his use of complimentary colours to express light and shades something that i find fascinating. in my colour work of this semester I have experimented with the technique of using complimentary colours to express shade.I shall also try to use the expressive brush work he uses to render form.

Monet was an innovative artist. His accomplished technical abilities are something that i would like to acquire in my working practice.
