Primarily a painter of figures in interior spaces Bacon influences me heavily. As with Monet his use of colour is profound , and is something that i try to emulate in my work.

Bacons "Painting 1946" ( above) began life as an image of a bird alighting on a field. Through his creative process the painting progressed into an allegory Depicting the horrors of the second world war. The beginnings of this painting and its conclusion show us how the creative process can take us down some unexpected avenues.

With his approach to describing the human form Bacon was a maverick. His figures are visceral, slabs of meat. It is this depiction of the human form that gives me impetus to include the figure in my work. perhaps I could also combine exterior and interior spaces to create environments to harbour my figures.
