Aleph.

The Aleph is a subject that one of the visiting students from the R.C.A introduced me to in of their talks. i did some research and found that the Alph is the first letter of the Semitic abrades. Aleph represents the number 1, and when used at the beginning of the Hebrew years means 1000. Aleph is also the first letter of the hHebrew word "emet" which meant "truth". In Jewish mythology the letter Alph was carved into the head of the Golem that ultimately gave it life. Aleph also begins the three words that make up Gods mystical name.

Whilst leafing through a book about H R Giger I came across the painting pictured above the title of which is Aleph. This painting is one of Gigers airbrush paintings and as such is full of symbolism. an x shaped cross with a vagina at its centre, The all seeing eye of the Illuminate amongst other things The painting is full to the brim with occult references. and is referential to Jewish Cabalistic tradition.

I am fascinated by Gigers paintings. I am impressed by the atmosphere in them. Perhaps some research into his mystical influences will give me some further insight into his subject matter
