Abject Fail

These two pictures contrast not in style but in varying degrees of success. On there left is an exercise in tone and shape. This monochrome picture gives me the option of producing an image with out having to worry about colour. This encourages me to focus on form and tonal perspective.

On the right is a very similar , this has been , "coloured in". for me this is a failure. The composition is lost to an overly busy palette. The main figure is lost in the composition, because it is not rendered to a high enough level of Finnish.

These paintings have taught me not to be too precious about my work. And that in the learning process a failed painting is just as valid as a successful one.

Perhaps a return to a more realist methodology will open up more creative doorways.
