ART271 CONTEMPORARY FINE ART PRACTICE

I'm primarily a painter. my influences are:

Francis bacon (I like the constrained violence in his work. His use of space, the freedom of the rendering of his figures, and his pallet of bright almost neon colours).

Picasso (his freedom of moving between styles throughout his career.

Dali (Dalis slick almost renaissance has a timeless quality. and his paranoid critical method which is used to compose paintings.)

Giger(i like his dark imagery. his bio-mechanical landscapes are rendered with a mixture of manual paint brush and air brush techniques. His paintings are fantastical in nature and possess a photorealistic style.

The surrealists are important to me. I enjoy the absurd and wacky and the dark and brooding. although Bacon,Dali,Picasso and Giger influence me I do not attempt to emulate them. I find that the challenge of painting like ones self.

My aim is to bring into question my preconceptions of painting and drawing, by using shaped supports and large canvases. under painting in acrylic and finishing off in oils. Previously i was producing images of strange configurations of the human form in surreal landscapes.

Now i am trying to introduce life like figures of friends and family into these strange environments.

I intend this year to evolve my visual language , and achieve my goal of manipulating paint into some images that whilst surreal are more subtle than the overtly odd paintings that i have been producing.

success will be measured by the results of Shaun space crits, tutorials and assessments
